He was a native of Princess Anne County and had been a resident of Norfolk for more than 50 years. Mr. Whitehurst was prominent in the furniture business here for 40 years prior to his retirement several years ago on account of failing health. He was a member of Freemason Street Baptist Church and a director of the Bonney Home. He was the son of the late Erasmus Capps and Mrs. Sarah Craft Whitehurst and in addition to his wife. Mrs. Sarah Morris Whitehurst, is survived by one daughter, Mrs. R. B. Wood; two granddaughters, Misses Sarah and Margaret Wood, Norfolk; one brother, E.H. Whitehurst, Princess Anne County; two sisters, Mrs. Virginia Land, Virginia Beach, and Mrs. Nancy Fountain, Princess Anne County. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home of E. Lee Cox & Bro., 631 Westover avenue, tomorrow at 12 o'clock noon. The Rev. Sparks W. Melton, D.D., will officiate. Burial will be in the family plot in Elmwood Cemetery.
