Norfolk Virginian Pilot Tuesday June 23, 1942
John Lee Whitehurst, aged 72, husband of Clara Virginia Whitehurst, died at 
a local hospital yesterday at 7:10 a.m.
Besides his wife he is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Nellie W. Norris, 
Mrs. Addie W. Elam and Mrs. Elizabeth W. Edwards, all of Norfolk; Mrs. Lucy 
W. Alcox of Princess Anne County; Mrs. Helen W. and Mrs. H.R. Keel, both of 
Cradock; a son, George D. Whitehurst, of Norfolk and 18 grandchildren.  Mr. 
Whitehurst was a native of Princess Anne County, but had been a resident of 
Norfolk for 70 years.  He was a charter member of Lafayette Lodge I.O.O.F.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home 
tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock.  Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
