Virginia Pilot and Norfolk Landmark Tuesday January 24, 1928
Mrs. Cora Ward Whitehurst, aged 54, died at the residence, Manchester 
Apartments, 323 West Thirty-Ninth Street, yesterday morning at 9:45 o’clock. She 
is survived by her husband, W. E. Whitehurst, Sr., of Norfolk; a daughter, Mrs. 
R. W. Vanderberry, of Richmond; a son, W. E. Whitehurst, Jr.; her mother, Mrs. 
John W. James; a sister, Mrs. Ethel Barr; two brothers, John and Roland Ward, 
and two grandchildren, all of Norfolk. Mrs. Whitehurst was a native of Princess 
Anne County but had been a resident of Norfolk for the last 36 years and was a 
member of the Colonial Avenue Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, corner 
Twenty-Ninth and Granby Streets, tomorrow afternoon at 2 o’clock. Burial will be 
in Elmwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Cora Ward Whitehurst - Funeral services for Mrs. Whitehurst were conducted 
at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Twenty-ninth and Granby streets, yesterday 
at 2:30 p.m. by the Rev. J.A. Chapman, pastor of the Colonial Avenue Methodist 
Church; the Rev. H.P. Clarke, pastor of the Park Place Methodist Church and the 
Rev.A.P. Williams, pastor of McKendree Methodist Church. Pallbearers were E.W. 
Whitehead, Thomas Woodhouse, W.C. Dickson, George Bachman, J Emmett Davis and 
John Edney.  Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery.
