Stricken with a heart attack yesterday afternoon while walking near his home at 3900 Holly avenue, Riverview, Walter Whitehurst, retired business man, died almost instantly. He was 84 years old. J. Millner and J.C. Martin, of 214 Holly avenue about 2 o'clock discovered Mr. Whitehurst's body lying on the sidewalk. After an investigation by City Coroner C.D.J. MacDonald and Detective Leon Nowitzky, it was announced that Mr. Whitehurst's death was due to natural causes and that no inquest will be held. In recent years Mr. Whitehurst had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. H.G. Lambert, at the Holly avenue address. He was a native of Princess Anne County and had been a resident of Norfolk for the past 25 years. He was a member of the Brambleton Avenue Methodist Church. Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock at the funeral home of E. Lee Cox & Bro., 631 Westover avenue, by the Rev. J.D. MacAlister, pastor of the Brambleton Avenue Methodist Church and the Rev. George M. Bishop, pastor of the Ocean View Methodist Church. Burial will be in the family plot in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Mr. Whitehurst was the son of the late James and Mrs. Elizabeth Dixon Whitehurst. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Lambert and Mrs. J.P. Morrisett, of Norfolk; one granddaughter, Mrs. J. Walter Land, of Norfolk; one great grandson, Beverly Land, of Norfolk; one brother, Oden Whitehurst, of Princess Anne County, and several nieces and nephews.
