Virginian Pilot March 18, 1902

WHITEHURST - At his residence, No. 335 Chapel Street, Monday, March 17th, 
1902, at 3:15 a.m., OBED H. WHITEHURST, aged 68 years.
The funeral will take place WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON at 3 o'clock from the Queen 
Street M.E. Church.  Friends and acquaintances respectfully invited to 
attend.

The obsequies of the late Mr. Obed H. Whitehurst were held from the Queen 
Street Methodist Church at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon and were largely 
attended.  Harmony Lodge No. 19, I.O.O.F., of which the deceased was a 
member, attended the funeral in a body.  The services were conducted by the 
pastor, Rev. J.K. Jolliff.  The remains were laid to rest in Elmwood 
Cemetery.
Following were the pallbearers:  Odd Fellows - James Barclay, H. Spangler, 
and T. Nugent: citizens - Thomas McKown, William White, T. Stroman and 
Edward Church.
