New Journal and Guide, January 21, 1961

A funeral service was held recently for Mrs. Mattie Whitehurst of 458 Church street,
who died in a Norfolk hospital.

The Rev. H.T. Meyers officiated and burial was in Calvary cemetery under direction
of the Morning Glory Funeral Home.

Mrs. Whitehurst was a native of Churchland. She was the daughter of the late
Cornelius Wright and Mrs. Febian Wright, and the wife of the late David Whitehurst.

Survivors include a brother, Jettie Wright; three nieces, Mrs. Monzella Powers, Mrs.
Ida Shennery and Mrs. Grace Williams, all of Norfolk; two nephews, Roosevelt Sutton
of Philadelphia and Moses Wright Jr. of Norfolk, and other relatives.
