J. WHITEHURST DIED YESTERDAY Well Known and Highly Esteemed--Funeral Monday Afternoon Albert Jason Whitehurst died at his residence, No. 424 Duncan Avenue, at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon, after an illness of two weeks of pneumonia. The deceased was about 42 years of age and was a native of Princess Anne County, but had been a resident of Norfolk for a number of years, where he was well known and highly esteemed. Mr. Whitehurst was at one time a member of the board of health and was secretary of the Norfolk Confederate Pension Board at the time of his death. He was a prominent member of the order of Odd Fellows, being a past grand of Merrimac Lodge No. 241, of which he was the organizer and of Norfolk Encampment No. 65 of the same order and Laurel Camp No. 83, Woodmen of the World. The two later organizations he took an active interest in their formation. He has on repeated occasions represented the Odd fellows in the Grand Lodge of Virginia. He is survived by a mother who resides in Princess Anne County, a widow and three children, three brothers and other relatives who live in Norfolk. The funeral will take place from the Ghent Methodist Church, of which he was a member, at 3 o'clock Monday afternoon and will be attended by the benevolent organizations of which he was a member. The service will be conducted by his pastor, Rev. John T. Bosman and Rev. W.G Starr, D.D., of the Cumberland Street Methodist Church.
