Whitehurst, 70, of the 1400 block of Bruton Lane, died Aug. 6, 1998, in his home. Mr. Whitehurst was born in Norfolk but had lived in Virginia Beach his entire life. He was a graduate of Virginia Military Institute, Class of 1949. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Virginia Beach. Mr. Whitehurst was also a member of the Princess Anne Hunt and a volunteer at the Old Coast Guard Station in Virginia Beach. Survivors include his wife, Betty W. Whitehurst; a daughter, Susan W. Collier of Winter Garden, Fla.; a son, William A. Whitehurst Jr. of Santa Clarita, Calif.; a sister, Evelyn Huntley of Lexington, Va.; a brother, Eldridge A. "Gus" Whitehurst of Knoxville, Tenn.; and four grandchildren, Kimberly L. Collier and William D. Collier, both of Winter Garden, Fla., Kali M. Whitehurst and Bryce T. Whitehurst, both of Santa Clarita. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church of Virginia Beach by the Rev. Georgeania B. Johnson. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Norfolk. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 7 until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad, P.O.
