The Virginian Pilot January 23, 1959


Norfolk-Mrs. Clara Virginia Whitehurst, 84, widow of John Lee Whitehurst, 
died at a Norfolk hospital Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. R.W. Elam, Mrs. Philip Edwards, both 
of Norfolk; Mrs. Irving Hanley of Princess Anne County; Mrs. Leighton 
Atkinson of Norfolk County and Mrs. H.R. Keel of Portsmouth; a son, George 
Denard Whitehurst of Norfolk; two half-brothers, Lewis Whitehurst of Norfolk 
and Ernest Whitehurst of Princess Anne County; 27 grandchildren and 26 
great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Whitehurst was a native of Princess Anne County and had been a resident 
of this vicinity all of her life, residing at 402 Ligon Street.
