Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Tuesday, August 25, 1992 
Gladys Augustine Whitfield of the 2800 block of Beachmont Ave., a retired
Norfolk school principal, died Aug. 21, 1992, in a hospital.

Mrs. Whitfield was born in Norfolk. She had retired as principal of John Goode
Elementary School and was also a former elementary school teacher. She was a
graduate of Virginia State College and received her master's degree in education
from Columbia University. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church; Alpha
Kappa Alpha Sorority, Links, The Colonial Maids; United Order of Tents; and
Broad Creek Civic League. She was the widow of James Whitfield.

Survivors include two sisters, Roberta Lucas and Margaret Waites, both of New York.

The funeral will be conducted at noon Wednesday in Grace Episcopal Church by the
Rev. Joseph Green. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . The family will assemble
at the residence. Graves Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
