The deceased, who was an old resident of Norfolk, had been in poor health for two years, but was able to be up and about on Wednesday as usual, passing away during Wednesday night without any knowledge on the part of the other inmates of the house of his illness. The remains were viewed by Coroner Kight yesterday morning and an inquest was not deemed necessary. The deceased was in the 80th year of his age and was a native of Virginia, having resided in Norfolk for sixty years. Mr. Whiting was the last member of his family, his brother, Clarence Whiting and his sisters, Mrs. T.W. Godwin and Mrs. Woodworth, having preceded him to the grave some years ago. His birthplace was at the famous Warren Hall, Gloucester County. He was the son of the late John Fox Whiting and Mary Oliver Whiting, his mother having been born in France. The funeral will be held at noon today in Elmwood Cemetery.
