The Virginian Pilot Wednesday October 6, 1976
CHESAPEAKE - Mrs. Cordelia Elizabeth Sawyer Whitley, 84, of 2135 Campostella 
Road, the widow of Leroy Whitley and an area resident most of her life, died 
Tuesday morning in a Norfolk nursing home.
She was a member of Providence Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Hattie Riggs of Chesapeake; a son, 
William Lemuel Whitley of Long Pine, Neb.; a brother, L.K. Sawyer of 
Norfolk; nine grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and a great-great-
grandchild.
A funeral will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Providence Baptist Church by 
the Rev. M.E. Hillard of the church and the Rev. John H. Johnson, associate 
pastor of Victory Tabernacle. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery with 
Graham Funeral Home, Battlefield chapel, in charge. The body will be in 
church at 1 p.m. Thursday.
