Whitney, past master of James P. Carter lodge, AF and AM, in rituals which followed funeral rites for Mr. Whitney Sunday. The Masonic rites were held at graveside at Calvary Cemetery. Funeral services attended by a large group of mourners were held from Queen Street Baptist Church with the pastor, the Rev. J. Jasper Freeman, officiating. A native of Snead's Ferry, NC, Mr. Whitney had also served his lodge as secretary for some 22 years. A member of the staff at a grocery firm for many years, Mr. Whitney made his home at 735 Reservoir avenue, Norfolk. He is survived by his widow Mrs. Catherine Whitney of the home; a son, Noble Lee Whitney of Washington; four daughters, Mrs. Lillie Anthony, Mrs. Helen Flowers, Miss Joyce Whitney and Miss Sandra D. Whitney of Norfolk; three sisters, Mrs. George Teal of Norfolk, Mrs. Della M. Young of New York City and Mrs. Annie B. Johnson of New Bern, NC; two brothers, Theodore Whitney of Philadelphia and Noble Whitney of Cape Charles; three grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Riddick Funeral service was in charge of arrangements.
