Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Tuesday, December 30, 1997
Rosa M. Whitten of the 2500 block of Tidewater Drive died Dec. 26, 1997, in a
local hospital.

Born in Pantego, N.C., she was a member of Phillippi Church of Christ Disciples,
Norfolk. She was predeceased by her parents, Estella Martin Vass and Willie L.
Vass.

Survivors include her husband, Calvin Whitten Sr.; four sons, Calvin Whitten
Jr., Melvin Whitten and Eugene Whitten, all of Norfolk, Samuel Vass of Pantego,
N.C.; two sisters, Vera Vass Jones of Portsmouth and Shirley Vass of New York
City, N.Y.; a brother, Wilbert Russell of Norfolk; six grandchildren; and a host
of other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Graves Funeral Home Chapel,
Norfolk, by the Rev. R.A. Council. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery , Norfolk.
