Wicks, of the Berkley ferry line. Apoplexy, we learn, was the cause of her untimely taking off, induced by exposure to heat. We extend to the Captain and his family our sincere condolence in this the greatest bereavement of his life and trust that verily "the Lord tempers the wind to the shorn lamb." ******************************************************************************* Mrs. Sarah M. Wicks - The sudden and unexpected summons which called the above estimable lady from this transitory world on Thursday evening, at 7 o'clock, has fallen upon this community with startling effect and the stalwart oak is bowed in sorrow, around whom she turned her graceful foliage for more than a quarter of a century. As the affectionate wife of Capt. E.F. Wicks, she maintained that relation until the close, leaving nothing to be desired. As a mother, she was remarkable for her devotion to her children, all of whom but one have reached maturity; and as a Christian she was not excelled by any, at all times worshipping promptly and devoutly with the communicants of the M.E. Church, of which she for many years was a consistent and exemplary member. She had reached her threescore years. We extend to her bereaved husband and grief stricken children our sincere sympathy and condolence.
