VIRGINIA BEACH - Capt. Needham Boddie Wiggins, 81, passed away Dec. 11, 2002.

He was born Sept. 8, 1921, in Durham, N.C. He was a graduate of Maury High School 
and attended the Norfolk Division of William and Mary. Capt. Wiggins was a 
graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point. He worked as a port 
captain for States Marine Lines and retired as a captain from Waterman Steamship 
Agency in 1989. Capt. Wiggins was proud of his membership and participation in the 
Council of American Master Mariners. He was also a member of the Masters, Mates 
and Pilots Union and Lynnhaven United Methodist Church.

Capt. Wiggins is survived by his wife, Gloria D. Wiggins; a son, Stephen B. 
Wiggins and wife Ann of Chesapeake; a daughter, Debra W. Butler and husband Samuel 
of Newport News; his sister, Margaret W. Boggs of Brevard, N.C.; and five 
grandchildren, Michael, Kristopher and Wesley Wiggins, Sean and Lauren Butler. 
There are also a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends at H.D. Oliver Funeral Home, Laskin Road, Sunday 
from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in Lynnhaven United 
Methodist Church, 1033 Little Neck Road, Virginia Beach. Burial will be at St. 
Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Norfolk. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to 
Lake Taylor Transitional Care Hospital Pediatric Unit, 1309 Kempsville Road, 
Norfolk, VA 23502.
