It is reported that Mrs. Wilkins expired near the place she was born. A native of Norfolk, she was the daughter of the late Henderson and Harriett Gordon. In 1892, she was married to Malachi Wilkins. From this union, there were six children, two girls and four boys. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. H. M. Shields, assisted by the Revs. S. A. Wilson, of New Calvary; W. C. Doty, St. Paul CME; W. C. Butts, assistant pastor, Queen Street Baptist and B. C. Moore of the Saints of Christ Church. Music was furnished by the choir, with special selections by the Phyllis Wheatley Chorus, and a solo by Mrs. Georgia M. Richardson. Mrs. Wilkins was a member of the Lydia Jewel Tents 265 and of the Phyllis Wheatley Circle. She attended the Armstrong School and the Norfolk Mission College. Surviving are three sons, one brother, of Montclair NJ; one daughter, three daughters-in-law, five grandchildren, six nieces, one nephew and a number of cousins. Flower girls were from the Phyllis Wheatley Circle, the Daughters of the Evening Star and the Norfolk Social Club. Pallbearers were from the St. Johns AME Church, New Calvary Baptist, and the Sons of Norfolk Lodge. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery with the Hale Funeral Home in charge.
