The rites were conducted by the Rev. W.O. Carson, pastor of Metropolitan AMEZ Church, Norfolk, and burial was in Calvary Cemetery in that city. King Funeral Home was in charge. Mrs. Wilkins was the widow of the late John Edward Wilkins of Carrol Street, Lincolnville. For thirty-two years she was employed as maid on the Baltimore steamers, her first steamer having been the "Alabama: and her last one, the "City of Richmond." She had been ill for a year and a hospital patient since June. She is survived by a son, William Wilkins; and a daughter, Mrs. Catherine W. Smith; seven grandchildren, Horace Smith, Margaret, Jean and Shirley Smith; Cynthia and Juanita Wilkins and William Wilkins, Jr. Her survivors also include a niece, Mrs. Hazel Stone of Virginia Beach. Mrs. Wilkins held membership in Emanuel AME Church, Portsmouth. She and her family resided at 1329 Outten Street, Norfolk, the city she had made her home since 1918. Member of the family from Portsmouth and several friends attended her rites that afternoon.
