Funeral services for Mrs. Mary E. Williams were held Monday, April 14 at 10 a.m. 
at St. Joseph Church with Father Mac Lellan officiating.  Mrs. Williams died 
April 9 at her residence, 972 Philpotts road at the age of 68.  She was a native 
of Richmond, VA, and had lived in Norfolk over 50 years.  She was one of the 
first to organize a woman’s quartet which sang in various areas.

She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Mable Shaw, Philadelphia, PA, Mrs. Pearl 
V. Cooper, Long Beach, CA;  Mrs. Otelia Oliver, Philadelphia PA;  Rosa L. Batey, 
Norfolk and Mrs. Vivian Williams, Philadelphia;  three granddaughters, Mrs. 
Helen Pinkney, Philadelphia PA;  Mrs. Evelyn Hubbard, Hooks, TX;  and Miss 
Fredina Batey, Norfolk;  three grandsons, Emanuel Moore, Victor Moore, both of 
Philadelphia and Alexander Batey, Norfolk;  two stepsons, Earl and Leon 
Williams;  two sisters, Mrs Rosa Bonds, Philadelphia;  and Mrs Sarah Waterson, 
Richmond;  several great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

Burial was in Calvary Cemetery with the Jones Funeral Home in charge of 
arrangements.
