CHARLESTON, S.C. - Herfue Owens Williams, 77, died early Thursday morning, Sept. 
4, 2003 at home. 

Mr. Williams was born in Norfolk, a son of the late Julius C. Williams Sr. and 
Irene Pettus Williams. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 
Norfolk and received a bachelor of science from North Carolina A&T University. 
An active member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, he retired from the Federal 
General Services Administration in New York City and later was a consultant to 
the New York City Transit Authority. 

Mr. Williams was a member of Zion Olivet Presbyterian Church and an active 
volunteer in their youth tutoring program. As a recipient of a kidney 
transplant, he was an active volunteer for the South Carolina Kidney Foundation, 
advising new transplant recipients and encouraging others to sign up for organ 
donation. 

Surviving are his daughters, Terri Mayson Williams of Dallas, Texas, Valerie 
Elaine Williams of Stamford, Conn. and Tracey Williams-Zinn of Hamburg, Germany; 
a brother, Phillip Williams Sr. of Charleston; a sister, Irene Valentine of 
Jonesboro, Ga.; and devoted friend, Cynthia McCottry Smith. 

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Sept. 14 at 1 p.m. at Zion Olivet 
Presbyterian Church, 134 Cannon Street, Charleston. In lieu of flowers, 
memorials may be made in Mr. Williams' name to National Kidney Foundation of 
South Carolina Inc., 5000 Thurmond Mall, Suite 106, Columbia, SC 29201.
