Charles, also known as Chuck, was born at home on February 20, 1945 at 524 ½ Cumberland Street in Norfolk, Virginia to the late James and Mary Williams. He graduated from Norfolk Catholic High School, where he played baseball and basketball and later graduated from Norfolk State College, now Norfolk State University, where he was a member of the Army ROTC. He married the late Mary Hudson Williams. After being commissioned in the United States Army, Chuck went to flight school and served his country in Vietnam as a pilot. He retired from active duty with at least twenty years of service after achieving the rank of Major. Thereafter, he retired from teaching math in the Montgomery County Public School System. Among his many pursuits, Chuck enjoyed sports, especially baseball and softball. He could often be found on the field playing, umpiring, coaching, or simply just enjoying the game. Left to cherish his memory are his three children: Alan V. Williams (Lisa), Wayne C. Williams, and Jennifer M. Williams; his grandchildren: Brandy Gay Alfred, Brittany Williams, Alphonso Hyman, Adonis Hyman, Christian Williams, Solomon Williams, and Nathan Williams; his siblings: Martha Jones, Edward Williams (Gail), Mary Staten (Harry), Sam Williams (Mae), Helen Edwards, and Jim Williams (Josephine); two great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Predeceasing Chuck are his granddaughter, Bella Marie Williams, and his sister, Margaret Williams. A visitation for Chuck will be held on Friday, June 14, 2019 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk, VA 23502. The service to celebrate Chuck’s life will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Woodlawn Funeral Home followed by the interment at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Norfolk.
