WILLIAMS DIES SUDDENLY Well Known Citizen Stricken After Returning From Funeral of Friend Less than two hours after attending the funeral services of John M. Broughton, former superintendent of city cemeteries, who died Christmas Day, Douglas Edward Williams, aged 61, died suddenly yesterday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C.W. Fales, 311 Clay Avenue. Immediately after the services at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Mr. Williams returned to his home at 3:20 o'clock, and according to his son-in-law, Mr. Fales, went in the sitting room and laid down, apparently in his usual health. Passing thought the room later, Mr. Fales said he thought his father-in-law was asleep until he noticed a peculiar discoloration of his left ear. Going to Mr. Williams he suddenly realized his father-in-law was dead. He hurriedly summoned a physician and as one was not immediately available called the city coroner. When Dr. C.D.J. MacDonald, assistant coroner, arrived he pronounced death due to heart disease. Mr. Williams was a vestryman of St. Peter's Church, a member of Vandalia Lodge No. 47, I.O.O.F., and a member of the Industrial Council No. 3, O.F.A. He was a native of Southampton County, but had been a resident of Norfolk for 25 years. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Annie G. Williams; two daughters, Mrs. C.W. Fales and Miss Martha Helen Williams; one sister, Mrs. Alice James of Sussex County and one grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock at St. Peter's Episcopal Church. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
