PORTSMOUTH - Arthur Williams, 78, of 616 Portland St., died Friday in Medical 
Center Hospital (Leigh Memorial). A native of Wilson, N.C., he retired from 
Seaboard Railroad after 40 years. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include a brother, Walter Williams; three nieces, Mrs. Gertrude 
Whitehead, Miss Elma Phillips, and Miss Thelma Phillips, all of Rocky Mount, 
N.C.; and seven nephews, Charles Phillips, James Phillips, Frank Phillips, and 
Linburg Phillips, all of Rocky Mount, N.C., and Arthur Lee Battle, James Lee 
Williams, and Joe Edward Williams, all of Wilson, N.C.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Mason Memorial C.O.G.I.C. 
744 Goff St., by Elder David B. Williams. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. 
Twilight Funeral Home is in charge. The family will receive friends Monday form 
7 to 9 p.m. in the funeral home. The family will assemble at 843 Memphis St. 
Tuesday at 1 p.m.
