Boston B. Williams on Friday of last week drew an overflowing crowd to the First Baptist Church of South Hill, Norfolk county. Officials and members of churches formerly pastored by the deceased vied with his fellow ministers in journeying long distances to be present. The many obituaries were read by Rev. Harvey N. Johnson, Secretary of the Baptist Pastors’ Union. Rev. Dr. J. R. Custis acted as master of ceremonies. Eulogistic addresses were delivered by the following distinguished ministers: Drs. F. W. Williams, President of the General Association of Virginia; A. S. Heard, President of the Baptist Pastors’ Union; O. C. Jones, President of the Norfolk Union Association; Alex Hudgins and J. E. Rodgers. The last two men had been very close friends of the deceased. The closing remarks were made by Rev. J. R. Custis, who had been his pastor for fifteen years. The Rev. B. B. Williams had been pastor of the Morning Star Church of Princess Anne County, Pleasant Valley of Norfolk County, St. Julian Creek near Truxton, Little Zion of Great Bridge, and Hobson in Nansemond County. At the time of his death he was pastoring the Grove Baptist Church of Churchland. He was also the founder and first pastor of the First Baptist Church of South Hill, where his funeral was held. During all the years of this church’s existence he had been a member and a trustee. He was widely known for the ferver of his preaching and his gift of gospel song. Whenever he pastored the people were led into home-owninig and land-getting. The deceased came to Norfolk from Warren County, NC, where he was born sixty years ago. His death came after an illness lasting several months. He is survived by his wife, five daughters, three sons, and four brothers. The floral designs were many and beautiful. Touching solos were sung by Mrs. Sykes, of Berkley, and Misses Mary Gibson and Clara Brown. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Norfolk. The last rites were performed by Washington Lodge No. 130, A. F. & A. Masons.
