On Thursday morning, March 8, James Williams, Jr., died at the home of his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Williams, Sr.,1408 Calvert Street. Mr. Williams, or
“Punchy” as he was familiarly known to a host of friends, was born in New York
City , August 30,1905. His parents brought him to Norfolk in 1906, where he has
since made his home.

He attended the John T. West public school and the Booker T. Washington High
School. A little more than two years ago he was married to Miss Eva Beslow,
daughter of Mr. Phillip Beslow and the late Mrs. Mary Beslow.

Funeral services were conducted from the Queen Street Baptist Church, Sunday,
March 11 at one o’clock, the pastor, Rev. P. P. Eaton preaching the sermon. Mrs.
Maud Claiborne Holmes and Miss Rotella Perkins sang solos. Prayer was offered by
Rev. Stinson and the choir sang. Pallbearers were Messrs. William Myrick, Allan
Lovette, Charles Uzzle, William Luster, Thomas Rodgers and Julius White. Flowers
were numerous and beautiful and he was laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery. Mr.
Williams is survived by his wife, Mrs. Eva Beslow Williams, a small daughter,
Alda Lee Williams, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Williams Sr., two aunts, Mrs.
Fanny Ebrom of Norfolk and Mrs. Lillian Jackson of Philadelphia, and three
uncles, Messrs. Charles, Otha and William Goldman of Philadelphia.
