Wilson, a well known and highly respected gentleman, died at his residence on Pine street last night at 7:45 o'clock in the 54th year of his age, after a short illness from pneumonia in both lungs. Mr Wilson served through the late war in the Union army, and afterwards came to this town, where he has resided for a number of years. He was married last June to Mrs. Hawkins, who now survives him. He was a member of Berkley Lodge No. 278 B.P.O. Elks. Notice of his funeral later. ********************************************************************** The funeral of Mr. W.H. Wilson took place from Berkley Avenue Baptist Church yesterday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock and was conducted by Rev. H.N. Quisenberry. Berkley Lodge No. 278 attended in a body. Among the floral offerings was a handsome design from the above lodge Rev. Dr. Ray, who had been invited to assist in the services, paid a beautiful tribute to the soldier life of the deceased. Referring to the War Between the States, he said: "This dead soldier wore the blue and I wore the gray. And I count it a privilege to pay my tribute of respect to the brave men of that army who die among us. And I stand at this open grave with the consciousness that the men of the blue and gray are alike traveling on the broad level of time, and here meet in a common, natural brotherhood, and each will repeat, as he goes down into the shadows, the words of the great leader dying on Mount McGegor, "Let us have peace." His remains were interred in Magnolia Cemetery. The following gentlemen acted as pallbearers: Elks - N.S. Rudd, J.W. McDonough, J.W. West, L.E. Woodsen, B.J. Jones. Citizen Henry Grenalds.
