Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - March 23, 2008
PORTSMOUTH - Bernice Eva Carter-Wilson, known as "Pretty Lady" or "Mama," of the
3800 block of New River Reach, passed away March 19, 2008.

Born in Princess Anne County, she was the widow of two good husbands, Linwood
Carter for 33 years and Aurtaban Wilson for 23 years. She was a member of New
Calvary Baptist Church and a former member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Virginia
Beach.

She was predeceased by her mother, Annie E. Barbee; father, Lewis Barbee;
daughter, Bernice C. Goode; son, Linwood Carter Jr.; three sisters and a brother.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol Ellerbe of Fayetteville, N.C., and Linda
C. Cole of Portsmouth; a stepdaughter, Donnell Brown of Plainfield, N.J.; a
stepson, Kenneth Wilson of Chico, Calif.; a sister, Lenora Riddick of
Philadelphia; nine grandchildren; seven step-granddaughters; a step- grandson;
great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two sons-in-law, Anthony C.
Goode and Maurice Cole Sr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and
friends.

A funeral will be held Tuesday at noon in New Calvary Baptist Church, 800 E.
Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk, by Dr. William Collins Jr. Burial will be in
Calvary Cemetery, Norfolk. Community Funeral Home, Norfolk, is in charge. There
will not be a wake service. The remains will be in the church from 10 a.m. to
noon for viewing.
