Born in Norfolk, Va. on July 28, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Charles Eugene and Ora Jane Buchanan, wife of the late Lawrence Burgess "Byrd" Wilson and sister of the late Gladys Lancaster, her beloved "Toogie". Mrs. Wilson is survived by her daughter, Joan Waddington; grandson, Jack Thomas Waddington and his wife, Renee; and granddaughter, Natalie Christine Waddington. In addition she leaves seven great-grandchildren, Christopher, David, Brian, Isaac, Caroline, Karlie and Elizabeth. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Sandy and Bill Watson, Hank (Lanny) and Nina Lancaster, Barbara and Roland Batchelder, Randy and Marianne Lancaster, Craig and Kate Wilson, Cabot Wilson, Frank, Diana and Ann Wilson; and her brother-in-law, Henry Lancaster. Mrs. Wilson had many friends, especially Barbara, John and Tiffany Williams, Marian Renegar, Kelli Bogle, Louise Barnett and neighbors Tommy and Joan Moore. Mrs. Wilson worked a number of years as a florist, but the joy of her life was working at Good News Christian Bookstore in Elizabeth City where she developed many deep and lasting friendships. She worked at the bookstore when it was on Poindexter Street, at Port Elizabeth Centre and finally on Rich Boulevard. Many people have expressed how much her life touched their's. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church of Moyock, and previously had enjoyed years of worship and service at Rehoboth Baptist Church in Maple. A Celebration of Remembrance Funeral Service for Mrs. Wilson will be conducted by Pastor James Harrington on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Twiford's Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Norfolk, Va. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times at Mrs. Wilson's residence in Currituck. Twiford Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, is assisting the Wilson family.
