Norfolk Virginian Pilot January 11, 1951

Charles Winder, 69, for 50 years a public porter at Norfolk hotels and railway 
stations, died Saturday at 5:45 p.m. at his home at 808 Chapel Street. He had 
been ill for five months.
Also known as "Mark Hanna," he was employed principally by salesmen who engaged 
him to carry their wares.
A native of Norfolk, he was a member of the Sons of Norfolk Beneficial 
Association. 
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Martha Winder.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at St. John's A.M.E. 
Church, of which he was a member, by the Rev. J.H. Johnson, the rector. Burial 
will be in Calvary Cemetery.
