Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Monday, January 15, 2001 
Alean M. Winder, 82, of the 5900 block of Poplar Hall Drive, entered into
eternal rest on Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001. She was a member of New Macedonia
Christian United Church of Christ where she was a member of the Senior Usher
Board and the Missionary Board.

She was predeceased by her son, Leroy J. Winder. Survivors include four
daughters, Carolyn Mercer and husband Charles, Magdalene Washington, Clotelia
Lawrence and husband Herbert, Kathleen Brooks and husband Edward, all of
Norfolk; two sons, William E. Winder Jr. and wife Sandra of Columbus, Ga., and
Michael Winder of Norfolk; mother, Magdalene Wallace of Norfolk; adopted sister,
Rosanna Smith and adopted daughter, Elsie Smith, both of Norfolk; four
sisters-in-law, Ethel Winder and Bernice Winder, both of Norfolk, Sarah Snowden
of Chesapeake and Carrie Guisburg of Philadelphia; a daughter-in-law, Shirley
Winder; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and
a host of other relatives and friends. Our deepest appreciation is extended to
Dr. Goldberg and Susan, thank you.

A homegoing service will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at New Macedonia
Christian United Church of Christ. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery .
Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home,
Chesapeake.
