Mrs. Winfield was a native of Hampton. She was the widow of James Robert Winfield. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Norfolk. Mrs. Winfield was a volunteer with the American Red Cross; she was a safety and swimming instructor and taught the blind, mentally handicapped and amputees. She also loved animals and was a member of the American Kennel Association. Survivors include six daughters, Clareen W. Casey of Norfolk, Barbara W. Rossi and Faye W. Edwards, both of Virginia Beach, Mary Lou W. Epstein and Brenda W. Page, both of Norfolk, Linda W. Matthews of Virginia Beach; three sons, Robert L. Winfield and Brian P. Winfield, both of Virginia Beach, and Earl R. Winfield of New York; two sisters, Betty Tabb and Ray T. Porterfield; 40 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Gregory’s Catholic Church by Father Pascal Kneip, OFB. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery with a reception following at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church. A Rosary service will be at 6:30 p.m. today in H.D.
