Wingfield, one of the oldest and best known citizens of Berkley, died at his home, in Liberty street, yesterday at 11 o'clock. Mr. Wingfield was born in Richmond, Va., nearly 62 years ago. During the War Between the States and the southern Confederacy he was a member of a Richmond cavalry regiment and fought gallantly under the stars and bars during the four years of carnage. At the time of his death he was a member of the Niemeyer-Shaw Camp of Confederate veterans. About 32 years ago he moved from his native city to Berkley and he has lived here continuously since that time. He was engaged in business until about two months ago. Mr. Wingfield married Miss Godwin, a sister of Mr. L.W.N. Godwin of this city and he leaves to mourn their loss his widow, one daughter, Miss Mamie, two sisters, Mrs. Belle Jackson, of this place, and Mrs. Bertha O'Dill, of Richmond, and one brother, Mr. Robert H. Wingfield, of 340 South Main street, this city. The funeral will take place Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock from his late residence and will be conducted by the Rev. C.S. Lingamfelter, pastor of Armstrong Memorial Presbyterian Church. The pallbearers have been selected from Niemeyer-Shaw Camp, U.C.V. The interment will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
