WITTMAN VIRGINIA BEACH - William John Wittman, 72, of the 200 block of Green Kemp Road, a retired Navy chief petty officer, died July 21, 1987, in a hospital. Mr. Wittman, a native of Watervliet, N.Y., retired from Norfolk Naval Station Security. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church and the Nocturnal Adoration Society. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Wittman; two daughters, Dolores Hoyt of Chesapeake and Estelle Spachmann of Norfolk; seven sons, Leonard J. Wittman of Stroudsburg, Pa., Robert J. Wittman, Martin A. Wittman, Anthony P. Wittman, Richard G. Wittman, John F. Wittman and Thomas J. Wittman, all of Virginia Beach; four sisters, Marie Oldendorf of Lathams, N.Y., Kate DeBonis of Troy, N.Y., Millie Robillard and Rose Burkhart, both of Watervliet; a brother, John Wittman of Troy; and 13 grandchildren. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church by the Rev. Canice Welsh. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Norfolk. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday in Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. The family will be at the residence.
