                  A. J. Wood Jr., 83, Retired Official

Alexander James Wood Jr., 83, of 2414 Colonial Ave., retired executive of 
Norfolk Tallow Co., died Sunday in a hospital.
He retired in 1960 as general manager and assistant to the company president 
after 53 years with the firm.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. 
A native of Norfolk, he was the husband of Mrs. Mary Gardner Wood and a son of 
Alexander James Wood Sr. and Mrs. Elizabeth Creekmore Wood.
Besides his widow, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. F.T. Curotto of St. Louis, 
Mo.; four sisters, Mrs. J.B. Sadler, Mrs. R.C. Hudgins and Miss Helen Wood of 
Norfolk and Mrs. J.F. French of Portsmouth; a brother, L.D. Wood of Norfolk; and 
six grandchildren.
The body will be taken from H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments to Sacred Heart 
Catholic Church for a funeral service Wednesday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. 
Mary's Cemetery.
The rosary will be recited in the funeral apartments tonight at 7:30.

Jr., husband of Mrs. Mary Gardner Wood and son of Alexander James and Mrs. 
Elizabeth Creekmore Wood, in the 84th year of his age.  Remains will be taken 
from the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments to Sacred Heart Catholic Church for 
services Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock.  Burial, St. Mary's Cemetery.  Rosary 
services in the funeral home Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.  Friends are invited.
