C., where he went a few weeks ago in search of health. Mr. Wood was the South Carolina representative of a large firm of manufacturing chemist in Baltimore and was himself a chemist of some note. He made his home in Columbia at the Charles Edward apartments. The late Mr. Wood is survived by his widow, who was Miss Nannie Southgate of Norfolk, Va., and one son, Lewis Gaynor Wood, formerly a member fo the staff of The State and one of the correspondents of the New York Tribune in London. Mr. Wood's son was in Columbia several weeks visiting his father who was ill then, but he was obliged to return to New York. Mrs. Wood was in Hendersonville with her husband at the time of his death. Lewis Gaynor Wood was a native of Virginia. He came to Columbia about 1874 and took a position as druggist at Miot's drug store. Later he was in business in Charleston. For several years he was the traveling representative in South Carolina for the Murray Drug company of Columbia. A few years ago he accepted a position as South Carolina representative for a firm of manufacturing chemists in Baltimore. Mr. Wood was a member of the Richland lodge of Masons. The arrangements for his funeral will be announced later. The interment will probably be at Elmwood cemetery. The interment will be at Norfolk. Mr. Wood was a native of Virginia. He came to Columbia in 1874.
