Wood, one of Berkley's best known citizens, died at his home, 60 Walnut street last evening at 8:55 o'clock after an illness of three weeks. He was a native of Tyrrell County, N.C. but had been a resident of Virginia about 20 years. He was 65 years old. He served through the civil war in one of the North Carolina regiments. He is survived by a widow who was Miss Walker, his second wife, and twelve sons and daughters. They are Capt. J.D. Wood, master of tugs in the navy yard, Mrs. C.C. Sivills, Capt. R.E. Wood, captain on the ferries, Capt. F.M. Wood of Seaboard tug Dorothea, E.S. Wood, S.F. Wood, Jr., Mrs. Pattie Barnette, Miss Laura Wood, Victor, James, Wesley and Hilda Wood. He was a member of Tidewater Council, No. 30, Jr. O.U.A.M. The funeral will be conducted from the above residence this afternoon at 3:30 o'clock, with Rev. W.A. Smith, pastor of the Berkley Avenue Baptist Church officiating and the interment will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
