Melrose was born in Norfolk, VA, and grew up in Concord, NC. After graduating from Logan High School, he was a scholarship student at Friends University in Wichita, KS and Ohio State University. Soon after launching his career, he began working for IBM in Gaithersburg, MD. By the time he retired from IBM in 1997, he had achieved the position of Senior Systems Analyst, and had served in offices in Cincinnati, OH; Thailand; and Baltimore, MD. Following retirement, Melrose and his wife, the former Linda Sennstrom Stout, moved to homes in Redmond and Bellevue, WA; and he joined the front-of-house staff at Benaroya Hall in Seattle, WA. In 2007, Melrose and Linda moved to Folsom, MD. At the time of his death, Melrose was serving as a Lead Usher at Folsom Lake College's Three Stages performing arts center. Melrose is survived by his loving wife of 28 years; step- daughters Sheryl Stout Bailey of Wilkesboro, NC, and Carolyn Stout Lozo of Folsom, CA; sons-in-law Bo Bailey and Dale Lozo; grandchildren Christopher Stout, Lauren Lozo, and Kristen Lozo; great-grandson Owen Stout; and nieces Kimberly Woodson Park and Kristina Woodson of Reston, VA, and Maya Woodson Turman of Berkeley, CA. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Merritt Milford Woodson and Lucille Elaine Woodson ; his twin brother, Milford Ryland Woodson ; and his nephew, Milford Ryland Woodson II. Melrose was a man of immense curiosity and energy. His myriad interests included world-wide travel, collecting fine wine, driving his beloved Ford Mustang convertible, attending opera performances and health club classes, studying financial management, and playing golf and the classical guitar. He was devoted to his family and loyal to his many friends across the country. According to his wishes, there will be no services. Friends are invited to an open house honoring his memory on Sunday, August 19, 2012.
