Worcester The friends of Mr. Henry P. Worcester of this city, will be pained to learn of his death, which took place at four o'clock yesterday afternoon, at his residence, No. 126 York Street. Mr. Worcester had been sick only three days and at first the malarial fever, from which he suffered, was not considered as of a sufficiently serious nature to cause apprehension. On Sunday morning, however, the malady assumed an alarming form, its action extending to the heart. The wife and family of the deceased had spent the Summer at the North and at first intended to return home by the steamer arriving here from Boston last night. It was finally decided, however, to take that which reached here on the 6th inst. On that day Mr. Worcester left Elizabeth City, N.C., where he had been on a business trip, early in the morning to meet his family. The same evening he was taken ill while at tea and retired to his bed, from which he never rose again. Deceased was a native of Portland, Me. He was a nephew of Dr. Joseph E. Worcester, the celebrated lexicographer, and was in the 43d year of his age. He came to Norfolk during the latter part of the war and for several years past had been engaged in the lime and cement business. He was a man of decided literary tastes and was foremost in the management of the Norfolk Library Association, having frequently occupied official positions therein. He was also one of the chief organizers of the Star Course of Lectures during the past two winters and was a prominent worker for the success of the Yorktown municipal celebration in this city in October 1881. *************************************************************************** The funeral of the late H.P. Worcester will take place at 12 o'clock today from No. 126 York Street. The burial will take place during the afternoon and will be private.
