The Norfolk Landmark August 11, 1897

The funeral services of the late John E. Wrenn took place at 4 o'clock yesterday 
afternoon from Berkley Avenue Baptist Church. The services were conducted by the 
pastor, the Rev. C.W. Duke, assisted by the Rev. M.W. Butler, of Main Street 
Christian Church; the Rev. W.A. Slaymaker, of Armstrong Memorial Church and the 
Rev. Dr. A.E. Owen, of Portsmouth. The following named gentlemen acted as 
pallbearers: Messrs. J.S. Rodgers and W.L. Berkley, from Berkley Lodge 167, A.F. 
& A.M.; Messrs. C.F. Hudgins and John Whetstone, from Berkley Avenue Baptist 
church; James P. Williams and John P. Keeling, from Grice Commandery, of 
Norfolk; Messrs. Thomas Core and George Maynard, from the Royal Arch of Norfolk. 
The interment was made in Magnolia Cemetery.
