Born in Norfolk, he was the son of John Ernst Wunnenberg Sr. and Mary Ruth Fraser Wunnenberg . He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, including a two-year tour of duty in the South Pacific. After the war he worked at the Naval Supply Depot in Norfolk. In 1948 he joined his father-in-law, Irving B. Sawyer, at S.A.D. Parker & Co. Upon Mr. Sawyer's retirement in 1963, he became the company's sole owner. In 1977 he sold the company to Valley Poultry and Produce Inc., where he managed the egg division until he retired in 1997. A faithful member of Larchmont Baptist Church, he served as a deacon for many years. He was a past president of the Exchange Club of Norfolk, a board member of the Girls Club of Norfolk, and a member of the Norfolk Musicians' Association. He is survived by daughters, Cynthia Wunnenberg Moll and husband Robert Moll of Virginia Beach, Pamela Wunnenberg Wheary and husband William A. Wheary III of Norfolk, Janice Wood Wunnenberg of Norfolk; stepdaughter, Jeanne Cooper Walters of Norfolk; stepsons David F. Cooper and wife Vicki Cooper of Hedgesville, W.Va., and Robert T. Cooper of Hertford, N.C.; grandchildren, Elizabeth A. Moll, Jennifer L. Moll, Alan R. Moll and wife Debra Moll of Virginia Beach, John C. Wheary and wife Sara Brooks Wheary of Norfolk, Helen W. McCarty, Erin E. McCarty and Linnea A. McCarty of Norfolk; stepgrandchildren, John H. Walters and David H. Walters of Norfolk and Katherine Cooper of Hedgesville; great-grandchildren, Christian R. Moll and Jonathan A. Moll of Virginia Beach; a brother, Louis A. Wunnenberg of Farmville, Va.; a sister, Olga Harris and brother-in-law Philip Harris of Henderson, N.C.; a sister, Elfriede Johnson and brother-in-law Robert Johnson of Stumpy Point, N.C.; and a sister, Rose Locklear and brother-in-law Sam Locklear of Norfolk. He was predeceased in 1981 by his wife, Helen Sawyer Wunnenberg , and in 1983 by his wife, Virginia Cooper Wunnenberg . A funeral will be conducted today at 11 a.m. at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., 1501 Colonial Ave., Norfolk. The service will conclude at graveside in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 4560 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23462.
