Elsie Wyche was born Sept. 23, 1919 to the late Rubin and Hester Cross. Elsie
married the late Grover L. Wyche in 1938 and this union lasted 56 years. Elsie
was a devoted housewife and mother. Though deaf at birth, Elsie's strength,
intelligence and character was a life guiding resource for her nine children.

Elsie is survived by her children, Doris Knight, Linda Ewing, Mary Bumper and
Robert Wyche of Norfolk, Grover Wyche , Jean Swinson and Rodney Wyche of
Maryland, Alfreda Reid of Richmond, Va., and Joseph Wyche of Alexandria, Va.; 23
grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; a
nephew, James Cross of Bronx, N.Y. and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Metropolitan Funeral
Service, Granby Street. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Norfolk. Family
and friends will assemble at 3621 Karlin Avenue at 10 a.m. for the procession to
the chapel.
