 NORFOLK - Samuel Ross "Preacher" Yancey , 55, of the 500 block of Boissevain 
Ave., departed this life July 4, 2008. Samuel was born July 1, 1953, in 
Norfolk to the late Mr. Leon Yancey Sr. and Dorothy Burrell Yancey . He was a 
member of Wesley Union AME Zion Church, Norfolk. Samuel was preceded in death 
by his parents; wife, Dorothy V. Yancey ; and brothers, Joseph and Leon Yancey 
. Left to cherish the memories are sisters, the Rev. Dr. Connie Simpson (Elder 
Reginald) and Helen Jones (Micheal); brothers, the Rev. Maurice Yancey and 
Myron "Reggie" Yancey (Denise); and a host of loving relatives and friends. 
Special thanks to Downeast Rehabilation, Gates County and Riverpointe 
Rehabilitation, Valerie Jones and Rene Jackson from CSB. Special thanks also 
to VA Oncology and Sentara Norfolk General, Eastern VA ENT and Dr. Wadsworth 
and Odyssey Hospice. A homegoing celebration will be at noon Wednesday in 
Riddick Funeral Service, the Rev. Willie L. Dixon officiating. Viewing will be 
today from 2 to 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m. 
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The family will assemble at 11 a.m. 
Wednesday at 803 B Ave., Norfolk.
