He was a native of Norfolk and the son of the late Leon Sr. and Dorothy Burrell Yancey . He was the husband of Margaret Yancey . "Freedy," as he was known by many of his childhood friends, grew up in the Douglas Park section of Norfolk and attended Bethlehem Baptist Church. He worked for many years at the Coca-Cola Bottling Plant and was a self-employed tree surgeon. He leaves to cherish his memory two sisters, Dr. Constance E. Simpson (Elder Reginald Simpson) and Helen Jones (Michael); and three brothers, the Rev. Maurice Yancey , Samuel Yancey and Myron Yancey . He will also be sorely missed by special friend, Precious Mayfield, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Riddick Funeral Service. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m. and at other times at 1238 Hanson Ave., the home of the Rev. Maurice Yancey .
