Mr. Yapo was born Sept. 9, 1908, in Batac Ilocos, Norte, Philippines. He arrived in the United States at the age of 17 and joined the U.S. Coast Guard. He served with the Coast Guard for 20 years and also worked at NAS and NOB Barber Shop for 18 years. He was a founding member of St. Pius Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Agnes Murden Yapo of Norfolk; his daughter, Agnes Yapo McClare; his grandson, Gerald E. Yapo, and his wife, Suzanne Marie Yapo; grandson, Jeremy E. Yapo; granddaughter, Sabrina M. Yapo; his sister- in-law, Eunice Craddock; his brother-in-law, Richard A. Murden; as well as many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. Graveside services with military honors will be conducted today at 10 a.m. by Father Jay Wagner at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
