S. Yavner Dies, Once Owned Store in South Norfolk Robert S. Yavner, 64, who for many years owned and operated a dry goods store in South Norfolk, died Friday at 4:38 a.m. at his residence, [in], South Norfolk, after an illness of two months. Funeral services will be conducted today at 1 p.m. at the Sykes Funeral Home, Berkley. Burial will be in the Hebrew Cemetery, Berkley Avenue, extended. The family requests that flowers be omitted. A native of Baltimore, he had been a resident of the Southside for 50 years. He was a son of Mrs. Flora Salsbury Yavner and the late Julius Yavner. He was a member of Mikro Kodesh Synagogue. In recent months, he had been employed by the Moses Glasser Company of Berkley. Surviving, besides his mother, are his wife, Mrs. Bessie Glasser Yavner; four sons, Stanley F. Yavner, Jerome Yavner, Alvin H. Yavner and David V. Yavner; all of South Norfolk; two daughters, Mrs. Arnold Silverman, of Lynchburg, and Mrs. Philip Berlin; three brothers, Nathan A. Yavner, Meyer A. Yavner and Moses Yavner; three sisters, Mrs. Bessie Goodman Yavner, and Mrs. Bertha Cohen, all of Norfolk, and Mrs. Fannie Andelman, of Worcester, Mass., and two grandchildren.
