A native of Norfolk, Mr. Yavner was the son of the late Simon Yavner and Bessie Glasser Yavner. He had retired as the owner of Central Stores on Bay View Boulevard after 44 years. Mr. Yavner was very active in the United States Junior Chamber of Commerce in South Norfolk and served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of Temple Israel in Norfolk. Survivors include a sister, Shirley Berlin of Virginia Beach; two brothers, Jerome Yavner and his wife, Sonya, and Alvin Yavner all of Norfolk; a very special friend, Laru Hassel of Chesapeake; and nine nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Mikro Kodesh Cemetery in Berkley Section of Norfolk by Rabbi Michael E. Panitz and Cantor Elihu Flax. The family will be at 4800 Pool Side Road, Virginia Beach, following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or to the American Lung Association. H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk Chapel, is handling arrangements.
