Young, aged 66 years, who died yesterday at 2 o'clock, at his home on Thirty-sixth Street, will take place Thursday afternoon at three o'clock, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be private in St. Mary's Cemetery. Mr. Young had been ill for several weeks. He was well known in the city and greatly esteemed. Though but a school boy at the outbreak of the Civil War, he immediately joined the Young Guards of the city and remained with them until Norfolk was evacuated. Then he went with his father, the late Captain John J. Young, who raised and equipped his own command, the Young's Howitzers. Three days before surrender at Appomattox Courthouse, he was wounded in the arm, in the fight at Sailor's Creek, then taken prisoner and sent to the Lincoln Hospital in Washington, D.C. His mother, Mrs. Anna B. Young, wrote to General U.S. Grant pleading his youth to prevent further harshness. With great magnanimity General Grant paroled and sent him home. Soon after he was made cashier and treasurer of the Norfolk Trust Company. At its dissolution he became connected with several railroads. His last position being with the Norfolk and Western, which he faithfully served for many years. Besides a devoted wife, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. James E. Brennan of El Paso, Texas; Mrs. J.E. Tethers of St. Louis and Cecelia Young. Four sons, John, Richard N., Charles Douglas and Mark A., the last is a member of the Norfolk Light Artillery Blues and is down on the border. A brother, W.A. Young and three sisters. **************************************************************************** The funeral of Walter J. E.
