Virginian-Pilot, January 5, 1886
The funeral of Mrs. Esther A. Young took place from the residence of Captain John 
L. Roper, her son, on Freemason Street Sunday afternoon, and was largely attended. 
Rev. R. M. Sledd, D. D., pastor of Granby Street M. E. Church, conducted the services, 
assisted by Rev. R. M. Saunders, and the remains were interred in Elmwood Cemetery, 
the pallbearers being: Messrs. H. R. Watters, Wm. Taylor, L. Q. Collins, M. L. T. Davis, 
Fred. Greenwood, A. Myers, Samuel Pearce and Wm. M. Jones.
