Nelson Leonard Young, 1415 Virginia Beach boulevard, Norfolk, died at his 
residence Saturday, Jan. 7 at 2:40 a.m. after a brief illness.

A native of Lawrence, SC, Mr. Young came to Norfolk in 1915.  He was the son of 
the late Frank and Mrs. Mary Young.

For the past eight years, Mr. Young had been employed by the Norfolk Division of 
Virginia State College.

Mr. Young was a member of AMEZ Church where he was on the trustee board, a class 
leader and a member of the Men’s chorus.

Surviving are the widow Mrs. Hattie Young;  two nephews, James Bates and Nelson 
Young;  two nieces, Jessie Mae Young and Elizabeth Young

Funeral services were held at Metropolitan Church on Tuesday, Jan. 10, at 2 
p.m., with Dr. R. A. Councill, pastor, officiating.

Hale Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements.  Burial was in Calvary 
Cemetery.
