Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Monday, February 3, 2003 
NORFOLK - Mellasenah Harper Young, 84, of the 400 block of Saddle Rock Road,
died Feb. 1, 2003, in Sentara Nursing Center.

Born in Essex, N.C., she was the widow of Miles M. Young. Mrs. Young graduated
from Booker T. Washington High School and attended Virginia State College.

Survivors include her daughter, Dr. Mellasenah Y. Morris of Harrisonburg, Va.;
three sisters, Pearl H. Harper, Tola Epperson and Camilla Wheelock;
grandchildren, Dr. Mellasenah I. Edwards, Atty., Thomas Jared Morris and Miles
B. Morris; a great-grandchild, Mellasenah Nicole Edwards; son-in-law, Dr.
Stephen E. Wright; brother-in-law, Leon Wheelock; and a host of nieces, nephews,
cousins, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Harper; a sister, Odelia Harrison; and two
brothers, Arthur J. Harper and the Rev. Nathaniel W. Harper.

A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of
Metropolitan Funeral Service, Granby Street Chapel. Interment will be in Calvary
Cemetery. Family and friends are asked to assemble at 421 Saddle Rock Road,
Norfolk, one hour prior to the service for the procession to the chapel.
